We love our VW van but were ready to sell
because the engine would hesitate on every climb. We would slow down to 35-40
mph and wonder if we would even make it to our destination. We were never sure
when we would be left stranded. We took the van to our mechanic several
times and were told it is the "vanagon syndrome, don't you just hate
that". Yes, we did. We looked on your web site and found Dan
Richardson (Louis Foreign Car - Seattle). He knew immediately what we were
talking about because he had rebuilt a vanagon engine and was not satisfied
with the results. He had discovered Tiico Volkswagan engines, a South African
company that makes engines that fit perfectly in our Vanagon (91 Carat). Dan
worked fast and efficiently. He was straight with us and even found a serious
brake problem that we had been concerned about but our previous mechanic never
spotted. After
the normal breakin period for our new engine we were ready to test the beast.
What a difference! Just starting the engine feels great, it has a ready rumble
that exudes power and dependability. On the freeway we can accelerate right up
to 70 mph no problem, yeah you still slow down on hills but it is a VW van,
not a muscle car. Gas mileage is up to 20mpg. Our van is now everything we
wanted. Dan and Tiico have transformed us from potential ex van owners into
totally happy customers.

My Tiico engine is running great in our '89 Carat.
We're nearly three years into this conversion, and I'm still quite
satisfied.

To Whom It May Concern,
I had Bill Bourg of German Engine Service (Olympia, WA.) Buy and
install my 2.0L conversion for my 1987 Syncro Vanagon GL (I'm the
original owner, with over 192K). Bill did a fabulous job (and his
crew) and the conversion itself is flawless! My hat is off to
everyone who made all of this possible. Vanagons should have been
this way from day one. ALL of my Waterboxer problems are gone along
with all of those annoying electrical glitches and hiccups. The power
to climb hills, and I'm getting 5 mile to the gallon better than
before! To think I almost gave up on my Vanagon, I'm very glad I did
not, as a 15 year old Vanagon Syncro, with a Tiico 2.0L conversion is
better than anything new!
Thanks to all,
Deon Reynolds
